Kartini Thomas, an American artist, and ceramicist based on the French island of Oléron, founded Studio Kartini with more than two dozen creative individuals in Toulouse. Her art is inspired by monsters, modular toys, and microbiology and she enjoys pushing the boundaries of passion and disgust, cartoons and coral reefs, fine craftsmanship, and that perfect form that results from not paying attention to what one's hands are doing.
Thomas' sculptures are modular and incorporate delectable layers of texture and color. Thomas describes Studio Kartini as "art for optimists" and created techniques for implementing engobes and glazes, which produce depth and rich color. These works of art are intriguing and can add a little oomph to any space if placed accurately.

Kartini Thomas' art, which appears to be toys, creatures, and small playgrounds, aims at engaging clients/viewers in an approach that draws them more connected to the work. Because the creator of the piece grew up with anthropologist parents, she is influenced by iconography in her work.
"Kartini Thomas’ creative art is hands down one of the most interesting art works we’ve seen in a while and her approach towards this mind-boggling and boundless material; porcelain is simply amazing. The fact that her sculptures of colorful, fun-loving bacteria from Petri dishes can be rearranged to fit any space is what makes her brand different and we are so delighted to provide a space for the same in the Indian market.”
